The upcoming MacBook Air models have been spotted on Geekbench. In December 2024, Apple inadvertently revealed a software file for upcoming MacBook models, “Mac16,12” and “Mac16,13,” in the macOS Sequoia 15.2 update. These are believed to be the 13-inch MacBook Air (2025) and 15-inch MacBook Air (2025) powered by the latest M4 chip.
Both models have now appeared on Geekbench, hinting that Apple could be internally testing these devices and that the launch could be imminent. The two models will succeed the MacBook Air models powered by the M3 chip that were announced in March 2024.
2025 MacBook Air M4 Geekbench listing
The Geekbench scores for the MacBook Air with M4 (Mac16,12) show a Metal score of 54,806 and an OpenCL score of 36,305, indicating a significant leap in GPU performance compared to the M3 model.
With the M3 Air achieving around 41,000 in Metal and 30,000 in OpenCL, the M4’s scores suggest a substantial improvement in graphics-intensive tasks, potentially exceeding a 30 percent increase. The (Mac16,13) variant has also appeared on Geekbench, but the dedicated page now leads to a 404 error.
The Geekbench listings suggest that the M4 MacBook Air could be significantly more capable for tasks like video editing, gaming, and other graphically demanding applications. If these scores hold true, the M4 Air could be a compelling option for users seeking a balance of portability and graphical prowess. Apple generally claims that the M4 chip delivers a significant boost over the M3, with CPU cores up to 23 percent faster, graphics performance improved by up to 13 percent, and a Neural Engine that enables up to 46 percent faster AI processing.
2025 MacBook Air with M4: What to expect
The M4 chip lineup includes multiple options, such as M4, M4 Pro, M4 Max, and M4 Ultra, but the MacBook Air is only expected to come with the standard M4 version.
In terms of design, there may not be a major change in the 2025 MacBook Air, as the previous generation has already undergone a major design overhaul. Specifically, the two rumoured models are expected to have 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch screen size options featuring a notch screen. A recent report by Bloomberg revealed that the new MacBook Air models may launch in March this year.
