Like Picasso with a brush, Apple uses colour to express a distinct identity with each generation. While the company is often criticised for keeping the iPhone’s design largely unchanged over the years, it has consistently experimented with new colours for its Pro models. To recall, Graphite on the iPhone 12 Pro, Sierra Blue on iPhone 13 Pro, Natural Titanium on iPhone 16 Pro, and so on.
A new report suggests that the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro could introduce a striking new addition to the lineup: Sky Blue, and we believe this might just be the boldest colour ever seen on an iPhone.
iPhone 17 Pro Expected in Sky Blue Colour
The leak was shared by renowned tipster Majin Bu, suggesting that Apple is working on a new Sky Blue finish for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro. The shade is said to be closer to the MacBook Air M4’s blue variant. In fact, the said colour is also believed to be brighter and more vibrant than the Sierra Blue finish on the iPhone 13 Pro.

This could be a much-needed change in the iPhone’s Pro models, as many users have pointed out the colour options on the latest iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to be “dull” and “boring”. Some even said that Apple’s colour printer appears to be running out of ink, resulting in pale and washed-out shades on newer iPhones.
How Sky Blue Can Change the iPhone’s Look
Apple is very clever with its colour selection. Whenever there’s a new iPhone release, all the colour options appear to complement each other in some way. For example, when the company started using Titanium on the iPhone 15 Pro, all other variants also got a brushed metallic finish on the glass panel. When you look closely at all colours at once, it feels like a balanced equation.

If we use the same logic, and assume Majin Bu’s leak to be true, then we can possibly predict other colour variants of the iPhone 17 Pro. We can expect a Pure White or Silver finish, along with a darker shade like Space Black to go along with Sky Blue.
Another strong reason to back the Sky Blue colour possibility is that Apple has a history of releasing an earth-toned colour. We saw this first with Midnight Green on the iPhone 11 Pro, followed by Pacific Blue on iPhone 12 Pro, Alpine Green on iPhone 13 Pro, Space Black on iPhone 14 Pro, and finally, Desert Titanium on the latest iPhone 16 Pro.
Notice how the company has used a nature-based theme followed by the colour name? If we continue the same pattern, then the iPhone 17 Pro in Sky Blue feels very close to reality.
Apple’s Problems in Making a Blue iPhone
Not once, not twice, but Apple has made a Blue iPhone NINE times in its history. Notably, the first blue phone from the company was the iPhone 5c in 2013, which was followed by the iPhone Xr in 2018, and then all the way to the iPhone 15 Pro in Blue Titanium in 2023.

However, the company has introduced a different shade every single time, and none of them feel “Blue” in its true essence. When you think about Blue, what comes to your mind? The deep yet soothing ocean blue, the pleasant blue from the sky, or even the normal blue from Team India’s cricket jersey. But look at Apple’s blue iPhones. It’s a mess! Apart from the iPhone Xr, all other variants feel either dull or washed out.
Dear Apple, you have a golden opportunity to make things right by introducing Sky Blue on the iPhone 17 Pro. Select a shade that is soothing to the eyes, and more importantly, it should feel like blue.
